Embezzlement While Counting Tithes and Offerings!
Counting the church tithes and offerings is where most embezzlement of church occurs.
Establishing a procedure of checks and balances is the only way to prevent it from happening. Regrettably, most pastors, though they think about it, never take the necessary measures to implement a procedure prevents this crime from happening.
A church in Raleigh, NC suffered this crime when their church secretary embezzled $171,000.00. She had been with the church for nearly ten years and never gave any reason for anyone to suspect that she was embezzling money from the church. The amounts that were embezzled totaled approximately 50% of the church's budget.
What went wrong?
The church did not have in place a system of checks and balances that promotes transparency and discourages individuals from counting or handling tithes and offerings alone. At our conferences we teach churches how to create a money counting procedure that prevents embezzlement and protects those that are counting. Your church deserves it and so do those that take a risk by handling church funds.
